What terminology should I use to describe my service?
  • Describe your service based on your own professional qualifications, with the animal identified as the modality you incorporate into your practice.

    For example:

    * Canine-assisted psychologist
    * Equine-assisted occupational therapist
    * Canine-assisted counsellor
    * Equine-assisted facilitator
    * Animal-assisted educator
    * Assistance animal trainer

    This helps ensure your professional role is clear while accurately describing how animals are incorporated into your service.

You do not need a referral to access an animal-assisted service. If you want to claim Medicare rebates, you will need a referral from your GP.  Note not all service providers are Medicare registered.

All service providers listed in the ATL National Online Directory are self-regulated practitioners who have declared that they hold the qualifications relevant to the services they provide. As a condition of listing, all members agree to abide by Animal Therapies Ltd’s Code of Ethics, Conduct Standards and National Directory Listing Guidelines, promoting professional, ethical and accountable practice.
