Hi, I’m Shana—Counsellor, animal lover, late-diagnosis ADHD’er, and someone who deeply values authentic connection.

I created Firefly Counselling Services because I know how transformative it is to feel fully seen and accepted.

I’m a registered Counsellor & Equine-Assisted Psychotherapist. I am a member of the Australian Counselling Association (MACA) & hold a Bachelor of Human Services (Counselling). Starting in 2026, I am also strengthening my practise through study in a Master of Gestalt Therapy.

My approach is warm, inclusive, and grounded in the principles of Gestalt therapy. Gestalt invites us into the present moment, helping us notice what is happening in our thoughts, feelings, and body so we can make sense of our experiences and find new ways of relating to ourselves and others. I also integrate evidence-based approaches such as DBT, CBT, ACT, and Solution-Focused Therapy—always tailoring the process to your unique needs.

My practice is neuroaffirming & LGBTQIA+ friendly. I work with people of all ages and have a special interest in helping young people explore their identity, navigate neurodivergence, and manage social, emotional, and mental health challenges. I also have experience supporting people with decision-making and pre-and pre/post abortion support.

No matter where you are on your journey, my goal is to provide a space where you feel safe to be yourself—without judgment, without pressure, just acceptance and understanding.

Services:

Equine-Assisted Therapy: Equine-assisted therapy (EAP) is a hands-on, professional therapy that uses horses to help people of all ages meet emotional, thinking, behaviour, relationship, and mental health goals. Unlike talk therapy, EAP focuses on non-verbal communication, body awareness, and the relationship with both the horse and the therapist.

Equine-Assisted Personal Development: EAPD is a guided equine-assisted learning session designed to support personal insight and emotional skill development through interaction with horses. Inspired by the Horse Wisdom Program®, created by Meg Kirby through the Equine & Animal Assisted Psychotherapy Institute, sessions focus on building practical social and emotional life skills in an experiential and engaging way.

Counselling: Face to face or Telehealth sessions available. Whether you’re facing anxiety, stress, grief, or simply need someone to talk to, I am here to provide support in a way that is affordable, compassionate, and tailored to your needs.

Horse Wisdom Program: The Horse Wisdom Program® is a safe, social and emotional learning experience. 8 week program provides a personalised space for children to explore, reflect and grow at their own pace. Each 1 hour session explores a new theme, using nature and the presence of horses to gently build confidence, emotional awareness, resilience, communication, empathy and healthy boundaries. Suitable for 1-2 participants per session.
