I am now (sort of) retired but my Google Scholar profile can be found at: ‪Janette Young‬ – ‪Google Scholar. My main focus has been on the intersections of human and domesticated pet animal lives. This has included exploring how human inspired, animal including leisure can actively be leisure for animals as well; exploring the relationship between pet animals and human suicidality. As a practitioner-originating academic I had a focus on working to support the continued relationships of older adults and their pets and undertook an array of projects exploring the desires of people to remain connected to animals as they aged, and developed a risk management tool for use in Aged care facilities to ensure that humans and animals could safely live together in these environments (SAFE tool – on the ATL website). Its not that hard really – protective human:human actions encompass human:animal infection control processes and signs and sensible practises can keep everyone safe and happy in most other ways. With the positive impacts for people and animals being immeasurable.
